  • No. Whether it is your first ever treatment or you have received massage regularly for years, you will be welcomed and looked after. A consultation is always carried out before your first treatment to understand your needs, health history, and what you are hoping to get from the session.

  • You will be professionally draped throughout your treatment — only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time. You will be asked to undress to your comfort level. Most clients undress fully or to underwear, but you are always in control. The studio is calm, warm, and private.

  • Most health conditions do not prevent you from receiving massage, though some require adaptations or medical clearance. During your consultation, you will be asked about your health history. If you are unsure whether massage is suitable for you, please get in touch before booking and we can advise you. Conditions such as recent surgery, active infection, blood clots, or certain skin conditions may require modifications or a temporary pause in treatment.

  • Yes — and this is a significant part of the work at LuceZen. Chronic pain is complex and rarely has a single cause. Massage — particularly deep tissue work, myofascial release, and sports massage — addresses the muscular, fascial, and nervous system components of chronic pain in ways that can produce significant and lasting relief. Many clients who have lived with pain for years find results through consistent bodywork that other approaches have not delivered.

  • Full body massage uses flowing, rhythmic strokes across the whole body and is primarily aimed at relaxation, circulation, and general wellbeing. Deep tissue massage uses slower, more focused techniques to work into the deeper layers of muscle and fascia — particularly effective for chronic tension, postural issues, and pain. Both are valuable. The right choice depends on what your body needs.

  • Deep tissue massage should never be painful in a damaging way. There is often a quality of pressure that clients describe as a good ache — the sensation of work being done in tissue that needs it — but this should always be within a comfortable range. Communication throughout the treatment is important, and pressure is always adjusted to suit you. Good deep tissue work is about precision and patience, not force.

  • Yes. As a qualified sports therapist, Lucy brings a clinical understanding of how muscles function under load, how injury and compensation patterns develop, and how to support recovery. Sports massage is available as a standalone treatment and as part of a broader management approach for both acute and chronic sports injuries.

  • Myofascial release is a specialist approach that works with the fascial system — the continuous connective tissue web that runs through the entire body. It uses sustained, gentle pressure rather than oil-based strokes, and works more slowly and deeply than conventional massage. It is particularly powerful for chronic pain, restricted movement, postural patterns, and tension that has not responded to other approaches. It is often integrated into treatments at LuceZen alongside other techniques.

  • Manual lymphatic drainage — MLD — is a specialist technique using specific, light, rhythmic strokes to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage the drainage of fluid, toxins, and inflammatory waste from the tissue. It is used for post-surgical recovery, lipoedema, lymphoedema, chronic fluid retention, immune support, skin health, fatigue, and general detoxification. The results are often significant and felt quickly.

  • Post-surgical lymphatic drainage can often begin within a few days of surgery, though this depends on the type of surgery and your surgeon's advice. Early MLD significantly reduces swelling, speeds healing, and improves outcomes. If you are preparing for or recovering from surgery, please get in touch to discuss timing and what to expect.

  • Yes. LuceZen has experience working with clients living with lipoedema and lipolymphoedema. Manual lymphatic drainage cannot change the underlying fat distribution of lipoedema, but it significantly reduces the fluid component, eases heaviness and discomfort, and makes a meaningful difference to day-to-day quality of life. Please get in touch before booking so we can discuss your specific situation and ensure the treatment is right for you.

  • Specialist manual lymphatic drainage is one of the primary recommended treatments for lymphoedema and forms a core part of Complete Decongestive Therapy. It is safe and beneficial when performed by a therapist who understands the condition. Please get in touch before booking to discuss your history, and do ensure you are also working with a specialist lymphoedema service through your GP or hospital team.

Training

  • All courses are held in person at LuceZen Advanced Bodywork & Training, 1D Atkinson Street, Shipley, Bradford, BD18 3QS — the same studio where Lucy sees clients every day. Accessible from Bradford, Leeds, Keighley, Bingley, Halifax, and across West Yorkshire.

  • LuceZen courses are in the process of IPHM (International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine) accreditation. IPHM is a respected professional body in the complementary therapy industry. Upon completion, certificates are fully insurable, meaning you can obtain professional insurance and begin practising immediately.

  • A maximum of six students per group. This is a deliberate and important part of how LuceZen trains. Small groups mean personal, hands-on attention throughout the day — not a demonstration to watch from a distance. Every student receives real feedback, real correction, and real guidance.

  • All courses include a full printed manual, lifetime online access to all learning resources, structured home study, and a certificate of completion. Flexible payment options are available across all courses.

  • Yes. That is the standard every LuceZen training day is held to. The goal is not to give you a certificate and send you away to figure it out. By the end of your course you will have the technique, the clinical understanding, the client communication skills, and the confidence to offer the treatment professionally and start earning from it. Theory and anatomy are completed at home so that every hour in the studio is dedicated entirely to hands-on practice.

  • All courses are taught by Lucy — founder of LuceZen, qualified sports therapist, advanced massage therapist, and IPHM-accredited trainer. Lucy trained in India in the Ayurvedic tradition and has years of clinical experience across deep tissue, sports massage, lymphatic drainage, myofascial release, hot stone, Indian head massage, and more. She works with clients every day in the same studio where she teaches — so everything she passes on comes from active, current practice.

  • Yes. Flexible payment options are available across all courses. Klarna and Clear pass are also available at the checkout. If you opt to may in instalments a deposit is required and then the final payment needs to be made before your course start date.

  • The Complete Massage Foundation is a two-day intensive beginner course covering full body massage technique, anatomy and physiology, the muscular system, body mechanics, client consultation, contraindications, aftercare, and an introduction to fascial awareness. It is designed for complete beginners — no prior experience or qualification is required. Cost: £395.

  • No. A massage certificate is required for the specialist days — but the level does not matter. Completing the LuceZen Complete Massage Foundation is sufficient to access any of the specialist courses. You do not need a Level 3 qualification.

  • The Deep Tissue Massage day covers the true principles of deep tissue work — not just pressure, but precision, forearm and elbow technique, working with chronic tension and pain patterns, anatomy of deeper muscle layers, client communication around discomfort, and contraindications specific to deep tissue. As a qualified sports therapist, Lucy teaches the same clinical tools and principles used in sports therapy — not a standard massage course approach. Cost: £225.

  • The Lymphatic Drainage Specialist Day covers manual lymphatic drainage technique, the Brazilian sculpting method, lymphatic facial massage, lymphatic system anatomy, and how to combine MLD with broader bodywork. Three highly sought-after and well-paid techniques in a single focused day. Cost: £295.

  • The Signature 5-Day Intensive is the complete LuceZen training — five full days covering massage foundations, deep tissue, lymphatic drainage, hot stone, and Indian head massage, taught in an integrated sequence so that each day builds on the last and everything connects. No prior experience required. It is the most thorough and comprehensive way to train with LuceZen — and at £1,399 for everything included, it represents exceptional value compared to booking each course separately. You will leave with a broad, advanced skill set and be ready to work across all of the disciplines covered.
